Results are estimates. Verify changing carrier, classification, and equipment rules before shipping.
How this calculator works
This planner applies the same deterministic rectangular fit engine used for containers to editable dry-van dimensions and payload.
Capacity is the smaller of geometric fit and payload-limited fit, capped by requested quantity.
Worked example
A 53 foot reference trailer can be compared against 48 x 40 inch pallets, including optional rotation and stacking.
What to measure
Use the outside packaged dimensions as the shipment will be tendered. Include pallets, skids, cartons, wrapping, overhang, and projections. Weigh the complete packaged unit, not only its contents.
Assumptions and limitations
Reference trailer dimensions and payload are editable planning assumptions. Confirm the actual trailer, legal axle limits, securement, load sequence, and usable space.
Frequently asked questions
Is this result exact?
Geometry and unit conversions are calculated directly from your entries. Class, billing, and packing results are planning estimates because official rules, equipment, and real loading conditions can vary.
Does Freight Totals save my shipment?
No. Calculator inputs remain in your browser and are not sent to Freight Totals analytics.
Can I use metric and US units?
Tools show the unit system that fits the workflow, and the density and volume tools support both systems. Equivalent secondary results are shown where useful.
