How this calculator works
This calculator totals packaged shipment weight and volume, calculates pounds per cubic foot, and maps the result to the current public 13-band density scale.
Density (pcf) = total packaged weight (lb) / total packaged volume (ft3).
Worked example
A 48 x 40 x 45 inch handling unit occupies 50 cubic feet. At 450 lb, its density is 9.00 pcf and its density-based estimate is class 100.
What to measure
Use the outside packaged dimensions as the shipment will be tendered. Include pallets, skids, cartons, wrapping, overhang, and projections. Weigh the complete packaged unit, not only its contents.
